Day 40: Crystal Palace Gardens

After lazing around a bit this morning, we headed to Crystal Palace, a large park in Porto. It was packed when we arrived and we realized there was a festival for children going on. I have loved the energy in Porto. It is lively and very family friendly. It seems like everyone genuinely loves living here. I can see why!

Millie rode an adorable little handmade and human-powered carousel. I should probably start keeping track of every carousel she rides.

She played a bit on the playground but started to fall into the nonsensical whine zone, where no problem can ever be fixed. For example, she will whine β€œI’m hungry” over and over but then yell β€œno!” at 100% of the snack and meal options we offer. I remembered this was happening because she stayed up extra late with the babysitter last night and was super tired, but it didn’t make it any less annoying β€” especially when we’re with friends.

We loaded up with our friends in their car and headed to a beach cafe for lunch. The boys were cold and requested blankets which made me laugh.

Millie played in the playground next door for a while but had another episode of getting overly upset over something we had no ability to change. We were also feeling tired from a late night and decided to just call it and take an Uber back.

We had a much needed quiet afternoon. Millie watched a movie and we booked some upcoming places. We played Barbies and she enjoyed having some new-to-her toys to play with. Then we put her to bed early and said a prayer for slightly more emotional stability tomorrow.
