Day 88: Playtime in Nakuru

Today was good for the soul. We did nothing. Millie brought me coffee and toast in bed, and when I finished those she brought me a second coffee. Then Nick had his turn in bed and Millie and I played various imagination games.

She noticed a toddler outside and brought him a balloon. We have now realized that “want a balloon?” is the ultimate under-5 pick-up line. He was the son of an employee of the hotel. They fell in love immediately and started playing together. Millie’s mama bear instincts kicked in big time and she loved having a little person to care for. His mom was grateful that he was entertained, and we were grateful that Millie was entertained.

The rain we had worried about yesterday held off and we had the most perfect weather until the early afternoon. Nick and I sat at our outside table just chatting while they played.

The boy’s mom brought over his bike and a ball. After about an hour, the Texan kids we met yesterday joined in. They had a picnic, did art projects, and played hide and seek. It reminded me of how Millie plays with our neighbors at home. Nick and I were both grateful for this day for her and sad that she hasn’t had more.

They played until the afternoon when it started drizzling and Caelan (the little boy) had to go take a nap.

We had some quiet time and then went to go eat an early dinner at the lodge restaurant. As soon as we got back we heard his cute little voice yelling “Millllie! Millllie!”. He had woken up ready to play some more.

All the kids ran around screaming for another 30 minutes until it was bath time. They gave each other big hugs and Millie said “See you tomorrow! I mean not!” Bittersweet, mostly sweet.
