Day 117: Drive back to Cape Town

Really really not much to report today. We packed up and left Knysna at 10AM, and then drove almost the whole 5.5 hours through to Cape Town, stopping only for gas and some lunch.

On the first half of the drive Nick and I discussed fairly seriously if we should move out of the US, and if we did, where we’d go. We talked through all the things we’d miss, the things we need to be happy, what would be best for Millie, if we’d be able to learn a new language, etc. Front runners are England, Netherlands, and France.

We had a simple but good lunch in a small town.

We took a different route back so we saw sights that we hadn’t seen before. Photos don’t do it justice.

For the second half of our lunch we out in headphones and got caught up with our podcasts. Las Culturistas for me and probably something about how AI is going to kill is all for Nick.

On the outskirts of Cape Town we drove past miles of slums. It’s hard to believe that people live like this in a wealthy country in 2025.

We arrived at our Airbnb during magic hour. It has a great view of Table Mountain.

We played a bit and did laundry. Nick noted how we have an incredible ability to take a very nice place and make it look like a mess within one hour of arriving.

We made a hodge podge of dinner built on our remaining groceries. Just a couple of days left in South Africa and I know I’ll miss it.
