Day 177: Lazy Morning & The Bund

Another day of not doing too much. We only have instant coffee in the apartment so we got dressed and left to get some of the real stuff. It was 9:45 and we walked past two coffee shops that didn’t open until 11AM. What gives? Eventually we did find some and had some egg salad sandwiches for breakfast.

We are staying in a shopping district and saw a massive Uniqlo. We went in to get some replacements of existing clothes. We have worn through some tshirts and got a couple of new ones. The store was huge, 6 floors. We had to practice a lot of restraint to stick to only getting shirts. Millie found a little nook and drew.

When we left the store it was raining. We ducked into a huge Muji to wait for it to pass. When it finally let up we walked back to our apartment. We lazed around for a couple of hours. We read, drew, played cards, and I even took a brief nap.

We had planned to go to the Shanghai Museum today but by the time we finally got moving we would have only had an hour or so before it closed. So we headed to The Bund area for a walk and dinner. It was packed and full of even more luxury shops. Not really our vibe.

We walked along the water for a while and it was cool to see the skyline. Shanghai reminds me so much of NYC.

We walked on to find dinner. At a food hall we ordered 3 variations of “meat in bread”- steamed dumplings, fried dumplings, and pork buns. I have been eating terribly here. We desperately need fiber but can’t figure out where to get it.

We took the subway back. 2 days in of doing very little, but despite not doing much sightseeing we are getting a good feel for the city.
