Day 185: The Disney Store & Korean fried chicken

We had the laziest of lazy mornings and didn’t get moving until Noon. At that point we decided to divide and conquer. Nick got a much needed haircut and I took Millie to the mall to get a Halloween costume. She has been talking about Halloweeen for a year now and we recently broke it to her that we will be in a place without trick-or-treating. She was really disappointed so knew we needed to make it up to her by getting a good costume.

We rode over an hour on the subway to a Disney store in a big fancy mall. She was so eager to get there but did a good job of being patient.

Once we got to the Disney store she was hit with an acute case of indecision. She couldn’t decide between the Rapunzel and the Cinderella dresses. She was having such a hard time that we had to leave the store to go sit on a bench to think about it and talk it through.

After about 15 minutes we went back to look at them and her eye caught a third candidate: Elsa from Frozen 2. She was immediately steadfast in her decision. This was the one. She said yes to the dress.

We bought it and a tiara and then went to the mall’s Eataly to celebrate with a salad and a pizza. I haven’t eaten a salad in months so it really hit the spot. After our lunch, we both got ice cream for Ice Cream Friday.

She insisted we go into a bathroom so she could change into her new dress for the ride home. She floated through the mall and told me no less than 10 times how beautiful she felt.

We took a taxi back and got an insane driver. He was wearing driving gloves and drove as if someone was timing him to set a world record. He wove in an out of cars, and accelerated to the limit. We almost died 10 times. But we made it back in one piece.

In between the near death experiences, I marveled at how pretty the city is.

When we arrived back to short-haired-Nick we played briefly and then headed out on a walk to find Korean fried chicken. We are making our way through the checklist of famous Korean dishes. We walked about 30 minutes to a young and lively area. It felt like a place that gets very rowdy after 10pm.

I stopped in at a pharmacy to get a bunch of face masks. When in Korea…

We found the fried chicken place and ordered a beer and some shoju. The chicken was good but nothing we can’t get at home.

Millie drew and took some selfies in her new tiara.

We walked back and she tried on her new dress one more time before taking her evening shower. I have a feeling every day will be a battle of protecting the dress from stains until it can live through Halloween and our first visit to a Disney park in Japan.
