Day 216: Sick & Dad day in Hiroshima

I still had a fever and splitting headache this morning, and then proceeded to spend all day in bed. Supposedly there is a big flu outbreak in Japan right now and I think that’s what we’ve all had.

Meanwhile, Nick and Millie spent the day together. When they returned to the hotel this evening, Millie was in a great mood and said “we’ve had the most amazing day!!!”

Secondhand report and photos from them:

They went to visit the Hiroshima Peace Park and memorial. Across the street there is a large tower where you are instructed to fold a crane and then drop it down a chute and into the side of a building while making a wish. Nick wished for peace and then asked Millie what she wished for and she said… a phone. He reported that the gravity of the history did not really sink in with her.

They rang the big peace bell at the memorial.

They noticed a ramen festival across the street and then spent most of the rest of the day here. Nick texted me “she is currently working on a candy apple while running barefoot on grass dancing to EDM and chasing kids around. So she’s in Millie heaven.” with the following pictures.
