We did nothing today, in the best sort of way.
We woke up and had our classic hotel buffet breakfast. We have settled into a breakfast choreography now. First, Millie scans the buffet line to see if there is anything specific she wants, which there never is. Then she goes and chooses a table. While she does this, I prepare her a plate of food. It is always a bowl of cereal with milk or yogurt, fruit, and a small serving of scrambled eggs. While I’m making her plate, Nick gets coffee for the both of us and brings it to the table. Then while Millie is taking her first bites and our coffee is waiting for us, we prepare our plates. I always go for savory and high protein (eggs, whatever stir fry they have, noodles) and Nick gets a high fiber bowl of cereal. Once we’ve all finished this we go for our second plate and second coffee. Nick gets eggs and toast, I get fruit, and Millie gets whatever “treat” she wants, usually a pancake or toast with jam.
Sorry for the extremely detailed description but this is the type of minutia that I’ll have fun remembering in the future.

After breakfast we went down to the beach and remained there all day. Millie was able to play with her sand toys again without the risk of jellyfish or sandflies. She and Nick worked on a sandcastle while I texted with friends and started a new book. It was the only English fiction on the “leave it behind” shelf and is terrible so far.

They came back and we switched off. I played with Millie while Nick went out for a long snorkel from the beach. He came back shivering and hungry for lunch.

We walked up to the restaurant and had a delicious lunch. I have been loving yellow curry here. Add to my list of “perfect a recipe at home” foods. Nick and Millie shared a coconut which seemed almost too on-the-nose with the environment.

We went back to our beach chairs and hung out. I worked with Millie on extending the sand castle city. We looked for sea glass and shells to decorate the castle. We swam a bit. We went to the pool.

She snorkeled for ages with Nick and every time I looked up they were further away, happily kicking along next to each other.

When they got back they had matching mask imprints.

We packed up and watched the sunset from our balcony. It had cloud cover so we didn’t see the big giant red ball sunset, and instead got the cotton candy skies sunset.

We had dinner at the hotel again and ordered mango sticky rice for dessert. My favorite. And now Millie’s favorite too. She licked the plate clean.

Once she was asleep, Nick and I attempted to plan what we are doing next. We are in high season here so everything is more expensive than I want it to be, and I’m ready to move on from sitting around getting so much sun. Nick could happily live the beach bum lifestyle for another few months. Millie seems to be in heaven too. We didn’t figure it out and will continue the conversation in the morning.
