Yesterday I started the post saying we didn’t do much. Today I really didn’t do anything. I left the hotel room only twice, for breakfast and dinner.
After breakfast Nick and I continued our previous night’s planning conversation. We finally decided on where to head next. Millie grew sick of our grown-up talk so Nick took her down to the beach while I stayed in the room and booked everything. This ended up taking forever; I had to book a boat back to the mainland, a car transfer to the city, a hotel in Bangkok, a flight out of Bangkok, and our next Airbnb. Each of these takes research, so it took me a few hours. Beats real work, but is still work nonetheless.
They returned back to our room at 1PM and put on a movie. This was partially to fulfill Sunday movie night and partially to get out of the sun during the hottest part of the day. We are very strict with sunscreen and have managed to evade burns, but still, it’s a lot of sun.
I was already in work mode so while they watched, I got our budget up to date. It seems like it would feel daunting to see how much money we’ve spent, but in practice it has the opposite effect on me. Day-to-day I stress about various individual purchases, but for some reason the Birds Eye view allows me to remove all feelings from the money. It also helps to see that we’re on track and the bigger purchases get balanced out by the smaller ones. Overall, Southeast Asia has been the cheapest region yet. Even with an “expensive” week here on the beach during peak season, we’re coming in under budget. It helps that we don’t spend any money on activities when there’s a beach at our doorstep.
We finished up our respective movie and spreadsheet at about 3. Too late for lunch, too early for dinner. We played a bit and then had happy hour on our dreamy balcony. Millie got a coconut that we squeezed a lime into (yes, we played the song). Nick and I had Cuba Libres with Thai rum. We were all half dressed.

We played Nick’s excellent party playlist and danced around together. Millie kept “playing tricks” on us while we pretended to relax. It was a couple of hours of pure happiness. Lots of laughter, perfect weather, and nothing to do but enjoy each other’s silliness.

When the sun was out of view, we got dressed and walked over to the hotel restaurant.

Millie was very hungry and therefore very impatient, so the two of us walked down to the beach to pass the time while waiting for our food. She gave me a tour of the sandcastle she had built with Nick earlier in the day. Then we walked back up to the table right as our food was arriving.
