Day 287: El Nido relaxation

Today was one of those days that just got away from us, but in the end it was just what we needed. The breakfast at this hotel is made-to-order, which is a nice change after so many buffets. I can imagine how obnoxious that sentence would be to read and for that, I apologize.

Due to a booking snafu, we had to move rooms within the same hotel. We hung out and killed time in our first room until we had to be out of there. We packed and Millie came up with a very intricate “quest” for the next guest to go on. She hid little glitter-painted rocks around the exterior and then made a map.

Translation: QUEST. YOU SEE IT IN THE GARDENS SURROUNDED BY THE HOTEL

I pretended to hide the treasure map and then she spent most of the rest of the day wondering if the next guest had found the special “glitterstones” yet.

At Noon we brought all our stuff up to the lobby, hoping we could transfer it to our new room and then get ready to go out for the day. The new room wasn’t ready yet and we didn’t have the energy to unpack what we needed in the lobby, so we spent 2.5 hours swimming in the pool and building a sandcastle on the beach.

Nick spent most of the day reading about Perth, which we are getting excited for.

At 2:30 we were able to check into our new room. I was wiped out by the previous hours of direct sunlight and we were all hungry. We ordered a late lunch and had it on the balcony.

Millie invented a new game that I hope she continues forever. She had Nick and I lay face down on the bed and then she pretended to be a “spa owner” and gave us massages and put cold towels on us. She did fart a few times but otherwise it was A+ service.

Before we knew it, the sun was setting. We weren’t very hungry for dinner but I took Millie out to get a smoothie as a treat and to make sure she didn’t get hungry later. She wore her little purse that is full of random coins, in case she happened to have enough to pay for them. We walked down the beach chatting.

We walked back with our smoothies. Sometimes hanging out with her feels like hanging out with another adult, but then she’ll see a rope and say “hold on, hold my purse, I gotta try something” and then I remember she’s still a little kid.
