We did very little today, but it was very relaxing. It felt like a weekend, except that in our current upside down world we don’t have weekdays or weekends.
Millie slept pretty late again and woke up in a great mood. At 9 we put on some clothes and walked a block away to Margaret River Bakery. Margaret River is a cute little tourist town in the middle of Australian wine country.
I had read that the bakery was good but it blew us away. They had a million things to choose from so we narrowed it down to one savory and one sweet thing each. I got a mushroom frittata and a pistachio croissant. Halfway through her cinnamon roll, Millie said “this must be the best cimmanum roll in the world”. She mixes is up the Ms and Ns and it is so cute.

We sat and watched everyone come and go. The weather was perfect.
When we were done, we walked over to the grocery store to refill some basics and to get some meat to grill for dinner. Nick and I laughed at how delicate all the flavorings were, everything is “hint of lime” or “lightly salted”.

We walked back to our Airbnb thinking we’d shower and get ready for the day, but then we never really got around to it. Millie drew and wrote her book. She and Nick spent an hour doing the Bluey activity book she got at the grocery store. She played pretend with Judy. She ate a ton of fruit and veggies as snacks (hallelujah). And she watched some TV on her iPad.

While she was doing all of this, I had a very productive day on my laptop. I got the ball rolling for filing an extension for our taxes, and made sure we have all our ducks in a row for registering Millie for kindergarten.
Nick and I had a long discussion about where we should head next, and how we should do it. We have landed on a long two week road trip through the Outback. We are going to drive from the southern tip of Australia to the north. I then spent another 2 hours booking everything we need along the way. We don’t usually book this far out, but I don’t want to be stranded in the middle of this empty continent without a place to sleep. I’m very excited about what’s ahead of us.

I wanted to go for a walk along the river, but Millie just wanted to play more and have a day at home. We did eventually go on a short walk to the local wine shop to pick up a bottle. We figured we’re in the middle of wine country, we should probably try some!
We came back and had happy hour on our porch. Millie and I pretended to be waitresses and cooks running a restaurant and took Nick’s order. I grilled kebabs and we had vegetables on the side. It was a simple and very fun evening with lots of laughs.

And now I’ve just stayed up past midnight booking the rest of our Outback adventure. We are staying at some very wacky places that I will reveal as we experience them.
