Day 323: Fly to Melbourne

These transit days posts always feel so boring to write. But gotta keep the streak going.

Our flight was at the sweet spot time, 11:30AM. We were up and at breakfast by 8, packed and in a taxi by 9:30, and through security by 10. Australia has the world’s most efficient security lines. No ID checks, no taking anything out of bags, and shoes stay on. They also have ample room on the belts so there aren’t traffics jams getting on or off. Other countries should take notes.

This all meant we were at the gate a full 90 minutes early. I bought Millie an activities book and we killed the rest of the time in the Lego store.

The flight was another easy 90 minutes and then we landed. We took a taxi into the CBD (I’m speaking like a local, this is Central Business District) and got into our airbnb. It feels like corporate housing but will do for this week.

We were all minorly grumpy. Millie didn’t want to leave, and Nick and I had decision fatigue when it came to deciding where to eat. I really do miss just being home and whipping up a simple dinner with whatever’s in the fridge. We played for a bit and then went out. We explored for about 20 minutes and then had dinner at a pub type of place. Nothing special but didn’t trick. We all perked up once we had some calories in us.

We walked back slowly, meandering through streets that seemed interesting. Millie took some photos with street art and then insisted on taking a photo of us.

It started raining and we hurried back. Early night and ready for some real city exploration tomorrow.
