Day 326: National Gallery of Victoria & Moonlight Cinema

We had a ā€œhangout morningā€. All that really means is that we didn’t do anything all morning and didn’t leave the house until afternoon. Millie did some reading and crafting, and we continued to book the endless amounts of things we need to book.

When we finally did leave, we walked over to the National Gallery of Victoria. This one wasn’t quite as great as the Art Gallery of NSW but was a pleasant place to spend an afternoon.

We beelined right to the Children’s Gallery, where they gave us party hats and stickers. The whole theme was ā€œpartyingā€? I guess? we didn’t last too long.

Then we spent another hour or so wondering around the main galleries. It was a real hodgepodge of stuff; Egyptian artifacts, modern paintings, British paintings from the 1600s, various large pieces of furniture.

This museum was right next to where we needed to be for our evening movie, but we had 2 hours to kill. We walked over to the same playground we visited a couple of days ago. Millie immediately ran off to make friends. I don’t think it will ever get old that she does this now.

While she played, I walked a few blocks to the local Woolworths to get the makings of a picnic for our evening movie in the park. I bought about twice as many things as we actually needed and headed back to meet them. We sat for a while and then left for the movie. We had to walk about 45 minutes away, but it was through the beautiful botanical gardens. Today was our first truly sunny day in a while and just perfect.

The screening was of the American masterpiece Shrek. Millie had never seen it and we hadn’t seen it since it came out, so it felt new for all of us. We arrived very early to get a good spot on the lawn, so Millie did her new thing and found some kids to play with. We snacked on our bounty of picnic foods.

As the sun started to set we noticed huge bats flying above us. They were the size of crows.

The movie didn’t end until 10 so we got an Uber home and got Millie straight to bed.
