“Today was a homecoming of sorts; a return to my roots; a journey outwards to find what is within…” — My boots if they wrote a daily blog about their travels.

Today we flew to Tasmania. Before planning this trip I knew two things about Tasmania. 1. Blundstone boots are from here, according to the tag 2. The Tasmanian Devil is from here, according to the name. I don’t think I even realized that a Tasmanian Devil was an actual animal and not just the name of a Looney Tune. Does this make me the dumbest person on the planet? Maybe. Am I ashamed to admit it? Apparently not.

Our arrival here marks a new milestone. We have now visited every state in Australia. We’ve spent more time in this country than any others on our trip. We are having such a fun time and it’s been so easy travel here (when I ignore the costs anyway).
Our morning was a typical packing up morning. Even though we have it down to a science now, I’ll be so happy to not have to pack my bag again for a while. I’m even looking forward to unpacking all our stuff when we move back into our house. Unpacking for good sounds like such a luxury.
We took an overly-scented Uber to the airport and all arrived feeling nauseous. We walked right through security but then had our first less-than-perfect experience at the gate. All flights had been delayed coming in and it was chaos. But we did eventually get on our plane and fly the quick hour over to Tasman Sea to Tasmania. Or “Tassie” as everyone calls it.

We landed and got our rental car, then drove to a mall to pick up a booster seat and a cooler, just as we did for our Outback roadtrip. We will be here for a similar amount of time and found that this method saved us a bunch of money.

We stopped at the Woolworth’s next door for groceries and got all our usual products. We’ve been here long enough that now we have favorite things, like the “nuff” hummus brand, bluey cheese sticks, and jam from the farm we went to in Adelaide.
We checked into our Airbnb and Millie did some drawing while we unpacked. Today’s story was about a cowgirl who had to deliver a scroll to a queen on the queen’s wedding day.

We walked out to explore the area and get some dinner. Hobart reminds us of Seattle: green, hilly, crisp air, beautiful views of the ocean, etc. It was sunny and warm today but Nick said “this feels like a place that is usually cold and gray” and I knew exactly what he meant.

I had found a well-rated restaurant online but on our way there we passed a very busy pub with people spilling out onto the sidewalk. Then we saw this sign:

We gave each other the knowing look of “is this calling to you? Because it’s calling to me” and grabbed a table. Nick and I each got a lobster roll. Delicious.

After this we walked back up the hill to our Airbnb. Millie got a full hair wash because there’s a huge bath here and she’s only had showers for the last 2 weeks. It was so early that we read 5 whole chapters to her and she still had lights out before 8pm. Hopefully that will make up for her very late night last night.
