Day 363: Relaxing & Araucano Park

Here is the jet lag report that literally no one cares about. I was awake again from 3 to 6AM, didn’t look at my phone once. Got a lot of good thinking done, though. We set an alarm so we made it to hotel breakfast for the first time since arriving here.

After this we came back to the room to shower and get ready for the day. There are a lot more interesting museums here that we wanted to visit. Our list was: poet Pablo Neruda’s house, the museum of human rights, interactive science museum, and museum of contemporary art. As we started looking them up, we realized they were all closed on Mondays. We moved to plan b, c, d, e… also all closed on Mondays. This whole city seems to shut down. On top of it, today was cloudy and cold.

We spent most of the day lazing around the hotel room. I was tired and didn’t mind the relaxation. Millie read a lot, finished a book, and then got really into her workbook. We’re not pressuring her at all with this work so it’s fun for me when she actually wants to do it.

At about 2 we knew we had to leave. We took a quick metro ride to Arcuano park.

It had a great, huge, and very empty playground. We were the only ones there. I played with Millie the whole time because I felt bad that she was the only kid there, and it kept me warm.

We started getting hungry and walked to an Italian place for a very early dinner. Millie had her first Pizza in a while. (And no we do not let her have coke, Nick ordered one and gave her the last sip!)

We killed some time and burned some energy walking back to the hotel. We were among the many commuters heading home from work. We walked past busy offices and I saw people at computers and conference tables. I had a moment of gratitude for this trip and all our time together.

I loved this building that got fatter on top. Felt more extreme irl than in the photo.

We got back to the room and spent two whole hours playing different card games. She’s moved up to using the full deck for Set. Nick and I played a few adults-only rounds and he killed me every time. He finds them before we’re even finished laying out the cards and it drives me crazy every time.

She watched a single SNL sketch and then spent the rest of the night practicing prop improv comedy and making up different characters. She had us genuinely crying laughing.

Simple, fun day of nothingness. Now I pray for sleep.
