Day 387: Teotihuacan for the boys & Papalote Children’s Museum for the girls

Millie was once again up too early, excited to see Papa Jeff. This time we let her knock on his door and then we let him entertain her while we slept in. I think we deserve it after a year of being the primary entertainment. When we got up at 8:30 we were greeted with a pile of pastries they had gone to get at the local bakery.

We had a lazy morning, most of which the Hiller dudes played and I was excluded for being a “Shepherd dude”. Some mothers would be offended by this but I’m grateful to be asked to sit alone in a room. At one point I heard them screaming with laughter and walked down to this scene. All three of them topless and playing cards. Apparently Millie got too hot and ripped her shirt off, then Jeff did to be funny, then she forced Nick to match.

Originally we had all planned to go to Teotihuacan together today, but after yesterday I knew Millie wouldn’t have fun. And me too, if I’m being honest. So we decided to split up. The boys took a long uber to the ruins, and Millie and I walked 40 minutes to the kid’s museum.

We had such a great day together. It’s been a while since we’ve had time together solo and I know she loved the undivided attention from just me. The museum was huge and we spent about 6 hours there, not getting bored once.

She had one difficult moment when she went up into this kids-only labyrinth and got lost on her way out. She had been gone a bit longer than I expected and I felt in my gut that she needed me, and then sure enough I saw her running towards me with tears in her eyes that she had gotten lost. I am generally not a very “woo-woo” person but I definitely feel like we have a soul connection and I knew exactly what was wrong before we even saw each other, like when I used to wake up 5 minutes before she’d start crying at night as a baby.

The museum had lots of little sections. We made slime. We learned about electricity and made little circuits.

We made rockets and shot them up to the top of the museum.

There was a big outdoor area with play houses where she spent about an hour setting up a tea party and wheeling a baby around.

There were Lego stations, pretend cities, a whole exhibit about the human body, and more. It was probably one of the best kids museums we’ve gone to, especially when it comes to keeping her engaged and entertained.

We took an Uber back and met the boys at home. The report from Nick about Teotihuacan was “I loved it but I don’t think anyone likes ruins as much as I do” and from Jeff “I incinerated my arm in the sun”.

We hung out for a while at home and then headed out for dinner. We walked around a bit and ended up at a place called “Lardo” which was much better than it sounds. Excellent Mediterranean food in a cool space.

There was an American family at the table next to us and Millie befriended their daughter and then got herself adopted into their family.

We bribed her back to our table by ordering her dessert, the grandparent special. We walked back and got to bed early. Off to Oaxaca in the morning.
