Day 388: Fly to Oaxaca

We left the Mexico City Airbnb at 7:30 and got through the airport in time for our 10am flight. Jeff was on the same flight as us so it was fun to fly as a unit. I kept having the thought “next time we have an airport day, it will be to fly home”. It feels surreal that we’ve made it to this point. I can’t believe I’ve kept up the blog and that soon I’ll get to just go to bed without typing out a chronicle of our day on my phone.

I was fascinated by the patterns of the farmland as we were flying in. These have been so different around the world. I would read a coffee table book of photos of the differences and why different regions grow crops in various patterns.

When we landed we packed into Jeff’s car and he dropped us off at our Airbnb. Our last Airbnb of the trip. So many “lasts”. It has a small courtyard and our bedroom windows face each other.

We dropped our stuff, lathered up with sunscreen, and then walked over to the zocalo. Nick and I have been to Oaxaca a few times and always love just hanging out at a cafe, drinking an ice cold beer, eating peanuts, and people watching. So that’s what we did.

Papa Jeff met us and then walked Millie over to his favorite ice cream shop to get her last Ice Cream Friday cone. We have promised to keep up the tradition at home, but this is the last one of the trip. Because grandparents have different rules, he got her two scoops AND a scoop in a cup.

Once we were done here, we walked over to Templo de Santo Domingo. Oaxaca is such a beautiful city and special place.

Millie was hot and over it, but had three people to get piggy back rides from.

We walked around the church, which was massive inside. I loved the library.

Millie and I were fading and I pushed to go back to the Airbnb to rest. Nick and Jeff decided to back to Jeff’s place, and of course Millie wanted in on the Hiller dude time, so I ended up going solo back to the Airbnb. I stopped for basic groceries on the way and then took an unexpected nap. Bliss.

When I woke up, I walked over to meet the Hiller dudes at a restaurant Jeff found for dinner. He chose this place because they have 7 types of mole, and allow you to sample all of them. I love mole and I love tasting things, so this was my heaven.

We took a taxi home and put a very tired little girl to bed.
